Themes be damned!

Last Saturday's Dr Sketchy session: a tribute to The Legend of Zelda, with the beautiful Justine Joli as female Link.

theme(s) for December

This month is always crazy, one reason for this is travel! If you are taking a long flight or even if you are just traveling on the subway, all the other people traveling or "enjoying" the holiday spirit in the city make your normal travels even more crazy. So share any kind travel related stories, rants, images, songs, films, or even route maps!

All Da Pumpkins

Anyone who's encountered me at any event where food is offered has surely heard me complain about overeating-related stomach pains. During this season it gets worse because I LOVE PUMPKIN EVERYTHING!

"The Prickly Pear"

Hi Friends,

So I had a little stream of consciousness sketch session the other day with food in mind and this is the strangeness I came up with. I want to see more posts, people! This sketch took all of ten minutes! Get your creative on! Its everyone's favorite- food!

I am an air head

Seriously...as of this moment my head is full of air...silence....nothing. I'm attempting to work on a short film of my own and am having an extreme case of writer's block.

I'm posting this not to ask for ideas but rather to inquire about everyone's methods for how they generate their own.

Do your ideas come to you in a dream? Do you see a message in your cereal? Do you visit a fortune teller? What?

I appreciate anyone willing to reveal their tactics used to acquire inspiration. If you're unwilling or unable, I will be satisfied if you expose any RPG addiction you have (or have had) so I can justify my obsession with Dragon Age.

Thank you in advance.

And it's food related ..yay!

So with the combination of our addiction to the show 'CAKE BOSS' and Matt's Birthday .. it was decided to make an awesome FlapJack cake. Here's how our efforts panned out. Anne Marie ( Matt's girl friend, for those not familiar) bake us the cakes and help with the Fondant, ( AKA the sugeriest thing on the face of the planet) which we used for the whale's blue skin. She also made up the different colors for the modeling chocolete 'Flap Jack' and 'K'Nuckles'. Matt Sculpted that sweet K'Nuckles figure out of diffent colored chocolete and I sculpted the Flap Jack. As far as how it tasted .. you'll have to ask someone who ate it .. all I had was Flap Jacks head ... his sweet sweet solid chocolete scupted head ... Ugghh my tummys starting to hurt again just thinking about it ..

I am so happy it is food month, I can post my muffincat!

Pastel

Here is a pastel I did for a client's CD cover yesterday. We're not using it since she feels it doesn't look much like her (i agree) but I thought there was some nice stuff going on in there.

George

This is kinda old. I don't really remember drawing it. It was probably for a story I was writing.

November Theme: Food

Hi all,

Thanks so much for all of your great Halloween related posts! I thought the whole theme thing worked out well (tell me if you disagree) so I thought I'd propose a new theme for November: Food. November's holiday is of course, Thanksgiving, which is pretty much all about eating... oh, and being thankful about stuff. I GUESS you could post something about that, too.

Obviously if you have stuff that isn't food related, post it anyway... but if anyone was looking for sketch/animation inspiration this month... ALL HAIL THE MIGHT NOMS!

The still life above is OLD and you may have seen it on my website- a college drawing midterm from Pratt. Needless to say I'm still pretty proud of it (please note the bra and panties I threw in for kicks.) Thats all for now, folks! Happy arting!

Slightly more than 48 Hours

I made this video a couple of weekends ago as part of a 48-hour film contest. This version took a few more hours than that because I went back and worked on it a little more after I turned it in for the contest. Requirements for this film: Had to be a combination of sci-fi and horror and include the name Herbert Lawrence and a salt shaker.

New York Geekcast - new episode

I'm sure most of you are already aware of the podcast that Nelson and I host, but I thought I'd just mention that our newest episode was released today.

In this very low-key episode, the Geeks hang out at Andrew Roberts’ abode, review “Drag Me to Hell” by Sam Raimi just in time for Halloween, talk about Big Apple Comic Con ‘09, and more. Also featuring our interview with Joe Madureira, comic book writer/artist and creative director on the new “Darksiders” game for PS3!

Lord Lena- Week 2

Hi all,

So lovely Lena came by today for another sitting and here's where we're at. I obviously haven't worked much on the background or her clothes, but primarily concentrated on her face. What do you all think?

Thanks,

The Why-Isn't-Your-Room-Clean Monster

HALLOWEEN: Minas

This is just a sketch I did while I was at work trying to stay awake by listening to Dante's Inferno. It's kind of like Halloween. Obviously a work in progress!

P.S. Dante's Inferno . . . B - O - R - I - N - G !

JENTOBOX.COM

NEW WEBSITE!!

www.jentobox.com

Goooooooooo!!!!!

Here's an animation test I just did with a kaleidoscope. I'll post a higher quality version later today once it's finished processing on Vimeo.

Here's a reeeeeeaaaally low-tech stop-motion test I did on my kitchen counter yesterday. This was shot without a tripod and I put the whole thing together in Quicktime. One day I will have real equipment.

The worst person i've worked with (AKA He who should not be named)

For Halloween: something truly terrifying. To name him would be to give him power so i shall not.

Tremble with fear:

You like Comics? I make Comics! How weird is that?

Me and my brother, Gabe (some of you may have met him), do a weekly comic that updates every Tuesday called "Crash Helmet Science." We alternate pages every week and we don't know what the other is going to do with their page. We don't follow a script so, the comic just kind of goes where it wants to. If you guys want to check it out the website is:

http://crashhelmetscience.blogspot.com/

All the odd number pages are Gabe's and all the even ones are mine. Any feedback is welcome.

Space Police Log 05: Ice Cream Stand

New episode of Space Police! The plot thickens.

If you've missed the previous episodes, you can catch up on the series here.

Admiral Lord Lena Green

So today I began the long awaited painting # 2 of my "Geeks" series. The subject is of course Lena Green: Artist, History Nerd, Fashionista, British Naval Commander, and all around friend-to-all. Pictured above is my first day of progress- contour line drawing/partial under-painting. Dimensions are 18X24.

So I need your help- how did I do on the likeness? Proportions? If you're wondering about the BG, I'm hoping to paint the sea with some kind of sinking battleship... Generally naval portraits include depictions for a victorious battle in the background (in flames!) Just like this guy:

Oh, and this is Halloween related because... she's wearing her costume from last year. Yeah. Now, critique pretty please!

THX!!!
-S

PS- I am actively considering who's next in the series. Would you like your portrait painted for free? Are you a geek for something? Do you have a couple of hours to spare to come model for me? Then you fit the profile! Drop me a line if you're interested...

Andrew - The Witch of the NorthEast

Here is my Halloween theme contribution. It is yet another wonderful edition of the much-loved tradition of drawing Andrew as different people/creatures.

(well, much loved by all but Andrew)

I have yet to set up my scanner or Photoshop on my new computer so this was a great experiment for Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

Hellboy

In the spirit of Halloween, here's a drawing of Hellboy.
Hellboy is Halloween-ish, right?
Right?

Flea Market Finds!

Went to the flea market down in Irvine last weekend and found some awesome old letters and an antique washboard from asia... so naturally I made this ambiguous mystical sign to hang on my wall.

This is dumb, but...

The halloween theme made me think of this image I did last year.

My stepmom (who is now a "Berger") is really into halloween, especially Frankenstein. Her birthday is near halloween, so I made this image for a shirt through cafepress.com

It's kind of cheesy but I thought it was pretty cute. Halloween is usually pretty cheesy anyway, right?
