I love your creepy spider. It looks like it's on a slide under a microscope. I think that's why it doesn't bother me that it's "stickery." To make it less stickery and feel more grounded...you could play with the drop shadow. Also, softening the hard edges of the body might help, or changing the shading on the body so that the darkest part isn't at the edge. Does that make any sense?

I hate the word "stickery."
As a matter of fact, I just captured it and i'm going to drag it out onto the street to shoot it with my sawed off shotgun.
I think it looks flat but I like it that way, I think it works.
